As part of our responsible and sustainable approach to doing business, we always aim to add social value and leave a positive, lasting legacy in the communities in which we work. By providing quality, decent work and apprenticeship opportunities, offering work placements to school and college students and ensuring our procurement practices are sustainable, our positive engagement with local people makes an enduring difference.
TSL Contractors is proud to pledge support to the Young Person’s Guarantee and join organisations across Scotland in creating the best opportunities we can for young people.
We facilitate employee engagement and involvement with local charitable and community initiatives through our volunteering policy. All our employees are entitled to two days of paid leave each year to volunteer in the communities in which we work, allowing us to support initiatives close to the heart of our people.
This summer we are launching our new community fund which offers targeted financial support to local groups working to tackle issues and inequalities which are of importance to our local communities.
Our plan is to identify four themes each year, one per quarter, and to invite funding applications from groups working to address these issues. In the first year of operation the topics are child poverty, food poverty, environmental issues and wellbeing initiatives.
The application process is short and simple and donations are limited to a maximum of £500 per application in order to maximise opportunities for community groups to take part. For details of how to apply, please contact us on communityfund@tslcontractors.
Social Value is all about the positive impact a company has on society beyond its financial bottom line. While profit is tracked in traditional accounting terms, social value is measured by the actions a business takes to improve the world around it.
Adding social value matters because it is the right thing to do and we believe that if you can conduct business in a way that makes the world a better place, then you should.
Understanding the wider impact of our work helps to inform better decision-making and increase positive change. By measuring social value using recognised standards we are able to record the relative importance we place on the wellbeing changes experienced as a result of our work.
We track, capture and record our efforts to add social value in everything we do through the Social Value Portal. This is the leading UK standard for independently validating organisations’ social value contributions, using a range of internationally recognised metrics.
We are going through the verification process at the moment and estimate:
