Modern Slavery Policy

In TSL we are aware that modern slavery is a global issue and we are committed to insuring all staff members are up to date and aware of the risks our company faces. All staff members in the company are expected to report any concerns and management are expected to act upon them.

Steps taken to ensure compliance:

• Right to work checks – all employees are checked prior to employment, original documents are checked, copied and signed for in the presence of the employee by management and a record is kept with the employees records and details are kept in a HR secure document
• Employment Contracts – all employees have a written statement of particulars which is signed by each individual and has all details of statutory rights including holiday pay and sick pay
• Company Handbook – this is available to all employees when requested, and also details all employee rights and company policies
• Payroll/Admin checks:
  • Wages/Salary – all employees are paid above minimum wage and we do not take any deductions for accommodation, food or any other debt not required by HMRC or other government agency.
  • Hours – employees are required to either work contracted hours or on a timesheet basis where hours are recorded each week and signed off by management on a weekly basis
  • Payment of wages – all wages are paid into individuals bank accounts and no wages are paid into a central bank account. As a second check the bank would flag up any duplicate accounts
  • Addresses – all employee addresses are kept on file and payslips are sent to these addresses on a weekly/monthly basis.
• On Site general checks to spot potential victims:
  • Legal documents – does the person have possession of his own documents or does someone else have them?
  • Transport – Are groups dropped off or picked up differently than what you would expect?
  • Appearance – Does the person look how you would expect, appropriately dressed and healthy?
  • Behaviour – Does the person’s behaviour appear normal; do they appear under the control of others?
  • Medical Care – Does the person have old or serious untreated injuries and are they reluctant to seek medical care or vague on how injuries occurred?
  • Fear – Do they appear frightened or scared of authorities
  • Debt – does the person perceive themselves to be in debt to someone or in a situation of dependence?
