CLIENT: MULL IONA COMMUNITY TRUST

PROJECT OVERVIEW

TSL were contracted by Mull and Iona Community Trust to construct a business resource centre in Craignure, Isle of Mull. The building was designed by Shauna Cameron Architect to offer support to local businesses and charities by offering
flexible workspaces, meeting rooms, training rooms and retail space.

WHAT WE DID

As a community funded project the specifications were to deliver within a strict budget and we were required to use materials which were energy efficient and low maintenance.

Items which were installed to achieve the projects objectives were:

• Underfloor heating
• Geothermal heat pump
• Exhaust air recovery system
• Borehole for drinking water
• Rainwater harvesting
• Disabled lift
• Sun-pipes for natural light
• New sewerage system and outfall pipe

PROGRAMMING AND RESOURCE

Given the position of the building and the extremely tight nature of the site, there was very little room for material storage or hoisting, which meant we had to achieve a very high standard of site management and logistical planning. All the elements of the build had to be well programmed to ensure all the trades worked together and to a very tight schedule.

We provided offices, retail space, therapy rooms and other workspace, kitchen and toilets all to the architect's specification, which included a disabled lift for wheelchair users and those who may encounter difficulties climbing stairs to access the upper floor.

Delivered on time and within budget, the project was completed in spring 2011 to the entire satisfaction of the client and architect, and has successfully provided the community with a much valued asset.
